On Being Small
Lately I've been thinking...
Living small is the highest good.
To be small in yourself is the prerequisite to selfless love.
Doing great things because they are great inevitably lands you on your face.
You were not meant for the highest of heights until you know the depth of your weakness.
Doing great things because they are great follows love of oneself.
You will never circumvent being a drop in the bucket; a flash in the pan.
You won't find another human being who conceives of your greatness as you do. You will be alone.
There will never be enough laud, enough spoils, enough action.
You will always lose this fight because the world is not designed for you, decked in your garb of greatness. The world will crush you for it has no regard for your great deeds.
You were created to be small, dressed best in your least.
And in that wee hour of the night when you feel the searing pain of failure, of meaninglessness, of loss, you become great. You are delivered by your struggle. You are set free from the need to be great because you know that the very most you could do for yourself; that the world could do for you, was not enough.
We are reborn in our humility, not in our pride. We are deceived by our own powers. We are enlightened by our powerlessness. In our weakness, we are transformed. There is no other path to true greatness.
Be small.
